Basics of Homeopathy

What is Homeopathy?

HOMEOPATHY – A very familiar name in the field of medicine. A small slender bottle is usually seen with many individuals.  Many of us, when become tired of taking heavy doses of other therapeutic medicines, get switched to homoeopathy. Let’s discuss today what is homeopathy all about.
Homeopathy is a system of natural health care that has been in worldwide use for over 200 years. It treats each person as a unique individual with the aim of stimulating their own healing ability. A homeopath selects the most appropriate medicine based on individual’s specific symptoms and personal level of health. It is recognised by the World Health Organisation as the second largest therapeutic system in use in the world.
Homeopathy is founded on two principles. The first principle is ‘like cures like’. It means that a medicine which is similar to the symptoms is prescribed to the patient. The second principle is ‘minimum dose’ which means that a minimal dose of medicine should be administered to the patient to start the healing process.
Homeopathy treats each individual as a whole. This holistic nature of homeopathy means each person is treated as a unique individual and their body, mind and emotions are all considered in the management and prevention of disease.
Consulting a homeopath (Homeopathic doctor) would work in the same way as any other conventional doctor. History taking is the most important part of the consultation. Questions about the patient’s lifestyle, eating habits, likes dislikes, temperament, personality, sleep patterns and past medical history is taken into account. Then it is followed by examination and investigation which helps in establishing the diagnosis.
Homeopathic medicines are safe to use as they rarely cause side – effects. This means when used appropriately under the guidance of a qualified homeopath they can be taken by people of all ages, including babies, children and pregnant or breastfeeding women. Of course, shifa (healing/recovery) lies in the hands of Almighty Allah (ta), the greatest healer.
