Reviving economy, through relaxation in Liquor sale

The extension for the “lockdown three” gave a sigh of relief to the devastating economy, by easing few curb and relaxation for the basic necessities. You will be surprised to hear that orange and green zones can open Liquor shops as it also falls in the category of basic necessity. I was not totally convinced that how on earth this decision could be made, but slowly I understood that because of the lockdown the states are not able to generate their regular revenues. And liquor sales will give a slight revival to the drowning economy. From this surprising decision, I understood a strange phenomenon that why in spite of health hazards from a few products it’s sale is allowed. Permitting liquor sales also shows us that the consumption of this particular product is deliberately high and the purchasing power the liquor has, is totally unimaginable. The flocking of buyers is enough evidence for that. Delhi government imposed70% excess tax on liquor. But still, the demand is high. When the government observed that social distancing norms are not maintained around shops, alternative measures were implemented like an e-token system, takeaway, online buying, and order. So, a famous saying can be learned here that “when there is a will there is a way”. But on the contrary, when buying vegetables, social distancing norms were not maintained the shops were forcefully closed.
I think it’s almost nearly two months we are in lockdown. We are hearing spiking of cases by each passing day. Rather than blaming and teasing the government for the decisions, it’s time to adopt the situation by strictly following the social distancing. Otherwise, all efforts put till now, and all economic loss faced till now will go in vain. The government will eventually one day become helpless and will allow opening the lockdown then it’s the sole duty of citizens to abide by the social distancing norms.In my view as Alcohol is the addiction and during the current situation owing to the financial crisis its consumption will increase and this may lead to worsening of a person’s financial standards. We are aware that an addicted person can go up to any extent to buy the Alcohol. Already domestic violence cases are surging and this decision can add more numbers to it.Financially, people are worried but addiction makes the person blind. For quenching the urge of addiction a person can deteriorate his condition.Health! Let’s talk about preserving health. The motive behind austere lockdown is to save the life and health of people from the Covind-19 pandemic. Now I think that the focus of government to save lives is moving towards saving the economy. No doubt the government must have the broader picture but still permitting the opening of liquor shops can fill the pockets of the revenue but can result in harming the citizens at the end of the day.Still, the scope of abrogating the decision can work in the favour of mankind.
