Parents, teachers, peers, or society. I don’t think any of these factors are affecting a kid anymore. In a true sense, the life of a kid is summed up between the size of his phone’s screen and heeding every notification kept on in his electronic gadgets.
If the aforementioned factors; Parents, Teachers, peers, or society are having an impact, then I think in the current epoch it’s merely diminutive. A parent can barely get access to their child’s search history, and if they are then it will probably help them to realize the quest of their child or err in him. The recommendations given by social media platforms owing to the recent search history are the major tools to realize the like of the child or any person. Recently news surfaced that, parents came to know about the pregnancy of their daughter by suddenly knowing the search history of their daughter. She was constantly searching about the pregnancy and the care related to it. Also, she has subscribed to a few channels that were giving updates about what happens each month as the pregnancy progress. I am totally amused to listen to that, though we don’t know the password, how we can investigate what is going in the child’s mind. I remember the novel written during the year 1949 where a fictional character as “Big Brother” who watches everything was portrayed as a person who knows everything. This character looked ambiguous at that particular time, but now it’s easily acceptable that on our every click; the log is saved and properly monitored. By evaluating our likes and dislikes the internet controls us or I want to cite a more proper term; “fool us”.
I want to mention here a suggestion which will assist to monitor or trace the people who are related to us. This will show how exposed we are in this era. If a student gives an excuse as, why he failed to accomplish his homework or any other curricular/extracurricular work, a teacher can immediately check the student’s all social media accounts which will show, whether the excuse mentioned by him is genuine or not. Either he was binging or hanging out with his peer group and putting false reasons. The photos posted can give the live navigation of the students where about. The incognito tab also can be explored. Teachers have to remain updated about the latest hacks which are trending online. Here I am not intending to trace the student in the negative aspect but the motive behind this is to fix the problem, if any, in real-time.
How is social media destroying vulnerable minds?
The algorithm wizard designed by the giant social media institutions is administering us. They can turn the tables for anyone. They have the power to revoke or evoke any powerful or influential personalities in the world. We are hearing that so many monarchs are dethroned or DE crowned because of these tools. The power to govern rests in their hands.
The anonymousness is making these tools more destructible. The term trolling is free to express hatred and bigotry. The defamation is observed more than appreciation. The attack on personal life is seen more than safeguarding it. The flaws of people are showcased rather than keeping it under the wraps. The software and platforms like tik tok and others are often used to make the flaws more intriguing to increase the number of viewers. If somebody argues that I am not seeing the other part of the leaf and I am just counting the back draws and negative aspects of the social media, however on the contrary the benefits and positive aspects are far more which should not be ignored.
Yes! Undoubtedly it’s true but the negative aspects are nowadays overpowering the positive aspects and ignoring them will one day take away the entire good facet. Sometimes it has been observed that people are unwillingly falling prey to the fascinating trap of misconceptions and hyper hallucination. The soft targets are immature minds and less educated people.
After analyzing the above fact, I personally inferred that education plays an important role in shaping minds. Proper education is nothing but fostering tender minds towards genuine and right paths. The famous saying: “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime “can help in this regard. The pedagogy of teaching is clear from the above sayings.
Conclusion
The purpose of writing this article is to highlight the fact that; the exceptional potent of social media is helpful and dangerous altogether. The simple trick to remain unaffected is to avoid consuming anything served in the platter if it’s coming from any unauthorized source. Or, sometimes the source seems to be authorized but it’s utterly biased. Up to a few decades earlier, controlling anything to circulate was possible up to some extent. Recently it has been observed, news has its own wings, and the spicier it is the more power it has to spread faster. This again shows how people are embracing foolishness. We are taught to keep the flaws of people always hidden. But we ourselves sometimes become the medium to spread it.
The silence of the good people shows that they are not ready to intervene in these matters. If anything bad is trending on social media the people avoid trying their hand to abandon it. The unnecessary outrage of the masses; physically and virtually is the worst scenario experienced in this era. The audacity shown on this platform is nothing but a real show of timidness. The fools are those who indulge in it without properly probing the matter.
In the end, we can conclude that mindfulness is the real tool while sailing in the boat of social media where every single click can flood you with the infinite option. This in the end will be the reason for repentance for losing time, money, respect, etc.
This article wants to make tender minds aware of the potential destruction which can be done by social media. However, along with that it also wants to highlight a few solutions which can fix these problems. I don’t want to enlist the end number of solutions, just want to highlight one eternal solution; “memorization of al Quran al Kareem” this can be the best practice to combat this difficult scenario.
